Treatment with SYNVISC®
The chart below illustrates when to expect pain relief from SYNVISC, and when it may be time to ask your doctor for another course of SYNVISC treatment. Generally, most people experience maximum pain relief 8-10 weeks after starting SYNVISC treatment. The full course of 3 injections is needed for maximum benefit.
Typical Course of Pain Relief Over 6-Month Period

Phase 1 of Treatment: 1-3 Weeks
This is the phase during which patients receive all three SYNVISC injections, given 7 days apart over a 15-day period. While some patients may begin to feel better after the first injection, all three injections are needed to receive the maximum benefit.
Doctors may recommend icing the knee after each injection. They may also recommend taking it easy for the first day or two, (no jogging, heavy lifting or standing for more than an hour) to avoid putting strain on the knee. After that, SYNVISC users commonly return to their normal activities.

Phase 2 of Treatment: 4-7 Weeks
Many SYNVISC users report feeling some improvement during this phase. Some experience less pain and stiffness when walking or climbing stairs. Others begin to enjoy greater flexibility and more freedom of movement. During this phase, it may become easier to perform everyday activities.

Phase 3 of Treatment: 8-12 Weeks
Most patients experience the greatest relief during this phase in their treatment. Many SYNVISC users have little to no pain or stiffness. And many report to returning to activities they enjoyed before OA Knee pain got in the way. Of course, all SYNVISC patients should consult a doctor before attempting strenuous activities.

Phase 4 of Treatment: 13-26 Weeks
While many SYNVISC patients are still experiencing improved flexibility and freedom of movement during this phase, some begin to notice a slight increase in pain or stiffness from Phase 3. At 6 months, you may want to talk to your doctor to discuss if another course of SYNVISC treatment may be right for you.

Please note: SYNVISC does not work for everyone. Results may vary depending on your diagnosis, treatment recommendations, medical history, severity of condition and timeframe between injections. This information does not replace the need to speak with your doctor about your results and progress.
