SYNVISC is an FDA-approved treatment for OA of the knee. Since it is injected directly into the knee, SYNVISC avoids the side effects of many pills, which are absorbed into the bloodstream. With recent studies linking medications like Celebrex® and Aleve® to increased risk of heart attack, stroke and stomach problems, it may be a good time to ask your doctor about this pill-free* option.
Side effects from SYNVISC are infrequent. In studies, about 7% of patients experience pain, swelling and/or fluid buildup around the knee1. Other side effects, such as rash, have been reported rarely. View Important Patient Information and Complete Prescribing Information for SYNVISC (PDF, 146K).
